Because of the business sector that I’m in, I use AI. So on one hand, I can appreciate AI. On the other hand, I don’t necessarily want an AI Data Center situated in my town.
There are so many developing arguments by the talking heads both for and against AI. I hear AI will result in job loss. I hear data centers use a lot of water for cooling. I hear AI drives up the price of residential electric services. I hear data centers can actually increase the temperature of the local environment. I hear, I hear, I hear.
But to be honest, I haven’t done a whole lot of personal research into the matter. Maybe it’s time I did before making unfounded complaints and just assume that what I hear is gospel. I think it’s time because for all I know, maybe AI ends up creating more jobs than job loss. Maybe my town is the perfect location for a data center. Yes, I think it’s time to put on the old researcher hat.
